Description

ScienceWiz(R) Online Discovery Electronics, Voltage, Current & Resistance: Would you like to build your own LIE DETECTOR? With ScienceWiz(R) Electronics -- you do exactly that. First, there are few basic concepts to learn.

The kit includes both a multimeter and all the electronic components needed to build multiple circuits. The Online Discovery version of ScienceWiz Electronics includes a flip-book that guides you through each project visually and includes embedded animations, videos and interactive simulations.

With Electronics you go from making potato batteries and voltage piles to building your first electronic circuits. You begin by using a multimeter:

  • to measure the voltages of batteries, new and used
  • to measure the current in potato batteries connected in series and parallel
  • to determine the value of the resistor used to protect an LED from being fried by a nine volt battery.
  • to solve circuit puzzles
  • to use as a continuity tester.

In so doing, you are preparing to build and more importantly debug actual circuits.

Then on to building your first electronic circuits:

  • a touch sensor,
  • a simple oscillator that flickers an LED,
  • light-blinking circuits
  • and finally, of course, a LIE DETECTOR.

The first circuit has three electronic components. The second circuit introduces one additional component, and so on. The kit includes a breadboard and uses zero ohm resistors as connecting wires, so no soldering is required.

This book introduces the curious of all ages to a fundamental set of concepts and skills necessary for not only building electronic circuits but also for building and repairing robots, household wiring and even electric vehicles. The list of applications is very long, indeed.

The online flip-book contains short video clips about the peculiar men, including Galvani, Volta and Faraday, whose work brought us into the modern era. Through determined effort and fortuitous accident, they went beyond the momentary sparks of static electricity. They produced sustained electrical current with the invention of the first batteries and later with the generating of electrical current without the need for any batteries at all. Discover how a frog's leg and Frankenstein are a part of their stories.

Includes a handle box for easy storage and transport, a multimeter, components necessary to build each electronic circuit, a buzzer, a motor, test leads, alligator clips, a nine volt battery cap, a bread board and zero ohm resistors to use as connecting wires on the breadboard.

About the Author

EDITOR: Ann Einstein, M.A.T. from George Washington University in Washington D.C., was a teacher in the Berkeley Unified School District. She has been involved with the education of children for most of her adult career as a director of early childhood education programs, as a teacher in gifted and talented programs and most recently as an elementary education teacher. She has been an editor of the ScienceWiz(TM) Books since 1994 when she edited the ElectroWiz(TM) Electricity book. Ann brings a clarity of mind and the capacity to see things through a child's eyes to the editing process. To quote an Einstein of an earlier generation: "We never cease to stand like curious children before the great Mystery into which we were born." - Albert Einstein
