Captivatingly beautiful. I couldn't put this down and devoured it within two days. A powerful story about friendship, love, loss, faith and so much more. I am still touched by this novel.
I truly enjoyed every chapter and learned a butt-load about different types of sharks! I did not enjoy learning about the senseless, meaningless, and brutal acts human impose on these beautiful and impotant creatures. This is well-written and super informative, but also depressing when you find that we are single-handedly depleting one of the ocean's greatest populations. And our ecosystems will pay for it.
Philosophy, neuroscience, art. This is me as a book.
Already one of my 2020 favorites. Told through a fragmented style of writing that shifts between past and present, this coming-of-age feminist novel is a beautiful and poetic read. The storyline of a woman shaped by her environment and trying to navigate the world has been well said and done, but Andrews' writing makes this particular story unique and memorable.
Looking to educate yourself this quarantine? I devoured this book in less than a week, and learned so much about a variety of different religions. This is a well-organized read that covers the basics of each religion and easily allow you to compare and contrast. Highly recommended for anyone looking to broaden their understanding of the world.
When I picked up this book I was definitely not expecting to find something so raw and deep. I thought I would read a slightly funny, light, somewhat suggestable collection of essays, but I was dead wrong! I felt a connection with Slate's beautiful mind and heart and I actually laughed out loud at some parts (which I never . do). I found myself in this book, and I'm so glad I did.
This is the story of three sisters who have lived on an island their entire lives. Taught by their cult-like parents to fear the world, and especially the men in it, they struggle to cope with the three men who have suddenly washed ashore. Filled with intense psychological warfare, this book emphasizes ideas of sisterhood, fear, gender, and toxicity. Mackintosh reimagines psychological abuse from men onto woman in a physical, diseased, and deadly way.
My dudes, sit back, relax, and prepare to have your third eye opened. James offers up some extremely enticing and valid ideas on life and illustrates how they all stem from a life of surf. You'll be ready to ditch capitalistic demands and drop in on a more stoked way of life. Perfect for any surfer with an inquisitive mind.
Probably my favorite book of all time. A detailed account of real-life artist Artemiia Gentilleschi. A woman of strength, courage, and enviable artisitic abillty, she defies the odds to become a well-respected painter.
