Seth Hettena

Local author and acclaimed national journalist Seth Hettena will be at The Book Catapult on Thursday, August 30 at 7:30pm to discuss and sign his new book, Trump/Russia: A Definitive History. Seth will be in-conversation with Richard Marosi, a Pulitzer Prize nominated journalist who covers the US/Mexican border for the Los Angeles Times

As Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the relationship between members of Trump’s campaign and Russian operatives continues, there is growing evidence that Trump has spent decades cultivating corrupt ties to Russians and the post-Soviet state. In Trump/Russia: A Definitive History, Seth Hettena chronicles the many years Trump has spent wooing Russian money and power. From the collapse of his casino empire - which left Trump desperate for cash - and his first contacts with Russian deal-makers and financiers, on up to the White House, Hettena reveals the myriad of shady people, convoluted dealings, and strange events that suggest how indebted to Russia our forty-fifth president might be. Using deeply researched reporting, along with newly uncovered information, court documents, and exclusive interviews with investigators and FBI agents, Hettena provides an expansive and essential primer to the Trump/Russia scandal, leaving no stone unturned.

Seth Hettena is an award-winning journalist. He was a long-time investigative reporter for the Associated Press, where he covered numerous stories of political corruption and American war crimes. He is the author of the critically acclaimed book Feasting on the Spoils: The Life and Times of Randy “Duke” Cunningham, History’s Most Corrupt Congressman. Hettena lives with his wife and sons in San Diego, California.

Richard Marosi reports from the U.S.-Mexico border for the Los Angeles Times. He was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2015 for his series on Mexican laborers and in 2013 for his stories on the fate of thousands of immigrants who were deported from the U.S. to Mexico in recent years. Marosi has delved deeply into Mexico’s drug wars, producing a groundbreaking series on the Sinaloa cartel and sharing an Overseas Press Club Award in 2009. In the early 2000s, his corruption investigations in Southeast Los Angeles County contributed to the indictment or ouster of a dozen politicians and city officials. Marosi is a Southern California resident but remains loyal to the Giants, 49ers and Warriors of his native San Francisco Bay Area.
