NEA BIG READ Traveling Symphony

San Diego's Write Out Loud in partnership with the Grossmont College Theater Department, will be performing a selection from the 2019 NEA Big Read, Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel right on the street in front of The Book Catapult on Saturday, April 6 at 12:00pm.

In Emily St. John Mandel's fantastic, post-apocalyptic National Book Award-nominated novel Station Eleven, members of a roving group of actors known as The Traveling Symphony perform Shakespeare from the back of a truck in an effort to return culture to their collapsed world. We're not quite there yet (hopefully the NEA won't be defunded any time soon) but our friends from Write Out Loud, along with students from the Grossmont College Theater Department, will be performing Shakespeare Banished, inspired by Station Eleven - from the back of a truck parked in front of The Book Catapult.

The performance will be followed by a discussion of Station Eleven in-store - and copies of the book will be 20% off on April 6th. Seth is a big fan of Station Eleven, so you won't be alone in the discussion circle, we promise! This should be a lot of fun and a fascinating, outside-the-box event that we hope you join us for!
