DimeStories

Join us for this month's edition of DimeStories on Wednesday, March 15 at 7pm, with emcee Amy Wallen! DimeStories is an open mic story event where authors read their 3-minutes stories (prose, not poetry)

The author Bernard Cooper proposes that shorter stories require “…an alertness to detail, a quickening of the senses, a focusing of the literary lens, so to speak, until one has magnified some small aspect of what it means to be human.”

DimeStories are compelling narratives – some fictional, some factual – that measure just three-minutes long.  (Also known as flash fiction or flash memoir.) They may be funny, tragic, or strange. We are open to being surprised, so rather than detail what they are, here is a list of what DimeStories are not: commentary, poems, news articles, rants, or sermons.  DimeStories out loud are no longer than 3 minutes. DimeStories in print are no more than 500 words. Founded in 1994 by novelist Amy Wallen, DimeStories, an open mic series featuring 3-minute prose, boasts chapters in three Southern California cities (San Diego, Costa Mesa, and Temecula) and in Albuquerque, New Mexico. DimeStories have also been heard at the LA Times Festival of Books, in New York City, and on public radio stations.

The event will begin at 7pm - doors will open at 6:30, so bring your 3-minute story and sign up to read!
