Catapult Book Club

The next meeting of The Catapult Book Club will come to order on the evening of Thursday, April 11 at 7pm - we will be discussing our current selection, If I Survive You by Jonathan Escoffery!

"Stunning . . . there's an ease, exuberance, and energy about Escoffery's writing, and despite its darkness it is thrilling to read . . . Escoffery's prose, by turns muscular and dense, is vivid and expressively true to the Jamaican voice . . . Escoffery's exploration of the lure and commodification of danger among middle-class Americans stultified by their wealth is darkly funny and unsettling." —Colin Grant, The New York Review of Books

"From the first lines of this masterful debut collection of interlinked stories, you can see that Escoffery is one to keep an eye on. It's a visceral mix of Marlon James Jamaican patois and Junot Diaz immigrant edginess & humor that combines to be something entirely unique and powerful. Those lines about it being stories of the modern American Dream are spot on - this is much of America in the 21st century: struggling, emotional, culturally bereft, and filled with heart and drive to make it all work. An astoundingly great debut."  -Seth

All book club selections are 20% off until the next meeting - and meetings are of course open to all!
