Piccadilly Bongo finds Jeremy Reed, described by Pete Doherty as ‘a legend’, at his most imaginatively brilliant, writing about his particular London milieu, and most often Soho. The collection, fuelled by breathtaking imagery, is complemented by a CD of Soho Songs from the pop legend and Britain’s leading torch singer Marc Almond, as a unique collaboration expressive of deeply-felt, evocative Piccadilly associations. The creative sympathies shared by the two artists is not only a first for poetry, but a powerfully original fusion of energies focused on the Piccadilly ethos of Johnny Go Home.
About the Author
Jeremy Reed was born in Jersey, Channel Islands, and read for his PhD at the University of Essex. He is widely acknowledged as the most imaginatively gifted British poet of his generation, praised by Seamus Heaney for his 'rich and careful writing' and by David Lodge for his ‘remarkable lyric gift’. Björk simply called his work ‘the most beautiful, outrageously brilliant poetry in the world’. His Selected Poems were published by Penguin in 1987. Subsequent collections have been Nineties (Cape, 1990), Dicing for Pearls (1990), Pop Stars (1994), Sweet Sister Lyric (1996), Saint Billie (2001), Duck and Sally Inside (2004) and This is How You Disappear (2007), all from Enitharmon Press. He has also published Heartbreak Hotel (Orion, 2002), a verse biography of Elvis Presley. Jeremy Reed is currently Marine Society Poet Laureate. Marc Almond is an internationally acclaimed and successful artist. He has sold over 30 million records worldwide and is an icon and influence to a generation of musicians. He shot to fame in the early 1980s after collaborating with David Ball to form the ‘electro duo’ Soft Cell. They recorded four albums and had a number of top ten hits including the international classic ‘Tainted Love’. After parting amicably from Soft Cell in 1984 Marc Almond has pursued a musical career as a solo artist. He is now the UK’s leading torch singer.
