As much as we, as a species, seem to love lists of our favorite things, I find that it's almost impossible to come up with a list of "all-time favorite" books. Or your one favorite book or even a top five, ten, 100. Oh we try - at every year's end, every publication, blog, or nerd with a pencil tries to outdo the other guy with their list of best books for that particular calendar year. (I am proudly one of those nerds, with the Catapult Notable list.) Nevertheless, whenever I am asked for such a list, I attempt. (Like I said, we like the List.) A friend with a much more respectable blog asked me for my Top Five crime novels of all time and I have made my best attempt to deliver the goods. Who makes the cut? Who narrowly misses? JPatt? Seth, when do you read? Do you read while eating your cereal in the morning? Do you read on the job? Please don't tell me you read in the bathroom because that is just gross. But really, I'm curious to know how you are able to plow through so many books so quickly.
ReplyDeleteLately I've had to write about James Patterson while I eat my cereal in the morning (a great diet program, by the way), but I read on my breaks during the day, before I go to bed at night, while I walk to & from my car @work, whenever I can squeeze a minute in. Some people have told me that it takes them a little while to get back into the rhythm of the reading when they pick a book back up, but I can just instantly get there, for whatever reason.
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't read in the bathroom, because that's what you want to hear. :)
The crime novels are super quick reads, though. It takes me much longer to get through a book of some substance than it does to get through a Ken Bruen novel - which usually just takes me a day.
